Cutting For Stone

For the longest time I had refused to listen to my friend’s suggestion about reading this book.

Cutting for Stone.

Recently while I was on my OB/GYN rotation, one of the attendings suggested it. She could not stop raving about it, and she told me that if I really liked the book A Thousand Splendid Suns then I would really love this even more.

So I decided to get the book from the library. I even had to renew my card because it had been maybe 2 years since my last borrow (been buying from any old store I could find books these last few years).

SO anyway I get the book and a few days went by, actually about a week and a half maybe two weeks and my time expired. So I finally renewed it, and because I had just got the new library card and found the library’s fancy new online app, I decided to get the E version and an audiobook.

I had never been one for audiobooks, never heard one before. But because I am on my general surgery rotation right now, I have absolutely no time to myself. I wake up at 4 AM and a lot of times I do not get home until 8 or 9 PM. Given that I don’t have time to sleep when would I have time for a book. Anyway I started listening to this book on my drives to the hospital and I am so SHOCKED!

Honestly I just finished it but the suspense was killing me so much by Chapter 10/11 that I just read some summaries (don’t do them justice) and then went to the last chapter (which is VERY UNLIKE me). But I still cried. I wanted to know something so badly that I ruined a great book for myself.

Needless to say, I HIGHLY recommend this book.
